SQLyog is now Open-Source!
This is really an exciting news when I read about the email today announcing SQLyog going open source. Since the day I started my career in software industry some 10 years ago, there has been a constant quests looking for the perfect front-end for MySQL.
First, fresh out of school we use CLI because that’s what we were taught to do.
"c:\>mysql -u root -p"
Then it gets a little complicated when you need to create database, drop database, create table, drop table, create user etc….. And we started to appreciate how a user-friendly GUI can make life so much easier.
After test and trials of various alternatives such as MySQLFront, EMS MySQL Manager, Navicat, phpMyAdmin etc, I’ve decided upon SQLyog and never looked back because it (apart from the user-friendly GUI) has one feature I needed most on my day-to-day work:
- ability to export / import CSV with various control options
If you are a developer dealing with MySQL, you know the pain of having to export/import/restore database on different machines.
Now with the release of free community edition and catering to those who doesnt require the powerful enterprise features (feature matrix), there is no reason why you should pass on such great tool.
